The role
We are looking for an External Communications Manager to join the GPT team and elevate GPT’s brand presence and reputation across our key business units — Retail, Office, and Logistics.
In this key role, you’ll lead the development and execution of media relations strategies that drive visibility, strengthen stakeholder engagement, and protect GPT’s corporate reputation. You’ll craft compelling content for external audiences, build and nurture media relationships, and manage communication issues with professionalism and agility.
Working closely with the Head of External Communications, you’ll play an integral part in shaping GPT’s narrative, delivering proactive media opportunities, and ensuring a consistent, positive brand voice across all channels.
What you will be doing
Key Responsibilities:
- Leading proactive and reactive media opportunities, collaborating with GPT subject matter experts to shape effective campaigns and responses.
- Building and maintain strong relationships with key media across property, business, urban affairs, and trade sectors.
- Developing and execute integrated communications strategies — including media relations, issues management, and industry engagement — to protect and enhance GPT’s reputation.
- Create clear, engaging external communications materials such as media releases, key messages, briefing notes, Q&As, and social content, anticipating needs across projects and milestones.
- Coordinating media events, briefings, and interviews for GPT spokespeople, and manage issues and crisis communications in partnership with business units.
- Monitoring media coverage to assess sentiment, identify emerging trends, and evaluate campaign performance.
What makes you stand out
You will hold tertiary qualifications in Marketing, Public Relations, or Communications, with a minimum of five years’ experience in a marketing, communications, or external communications role, ideally within an ASX-listed or large corporate environment. They will demonstrate strong written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to craft clear and engaging messaging. Proven experience managing media relationships, executing campaigns, and handling issues management is essential. The role requires a proactive, hands-on professional who can effectively engage and influence stakeholders across the business. High proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat is expected. Experience in external communications within the retail sector will be highly regarded.
