The role

Are you a commercially minded corporate lawyer who thrives on complex deals, strategic impact and being part of a team that genuinely enjoys what they do? As Legal Counsel at GPT (ASX: GPT), you will be advising one of Australia’s leading diversified property groups with a front row seat to major transactions and business decisions that shape GPT’s future.

Your work will be wide-ranging and span funds, investment management, capital partnering, financing, governance, strategy and general commercial matters as GPT executes on its exciting growth ambitions.

Working closely with stakeholders across the business, you will be a key member of deal teams and cross-functional projects. You will also be supported by a high-performing, down-to-earth legal team that backs each other, celebrates wins, and knows how to blend technical excellence with commercial smarts.

What you will be doing

• Be a genuine partner to the business – delivering technically excellent legal advice that is clear and practical.
• Transaction execution – drive and execute corporate transactions across the full deal lifecycle—from initial due diligence through closing and post-close integration. This includes coordinating internal and external stakeholders, managing transaction timelines, supporting legal and financial documentation processes, and ensuring all deal-related activities are completed accurately and efficiently.
• Spot and manage legal risks, developing practical and commercial strategies that protect GPT’s interests and support business goals.
• Break down complex legal concepts into clear, actionable advice for non-legal audiences
• Work hand-in-hand with cross-functional teams including the broader Legal, Risk, Governance and Compliance Team, as well as tax and finance to deliver integrated solutions that drive business outcomes.
• Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts, fund documents and governance materials.
• Manage relationships with external counsel, ensuring delivery of high-quality and cost
• effective legal services that complement GPT’s internal expertise.
• Rolling up your sleeves to support broader Legal, Governance and Compliance Team initiatives, from developing precedents and policies to delivering training that strengthen our legal and governance framework.

• A wide range of internal and external business stakeholders across all levels 

What makes you stand out

• A current practicing certificate and approximately 5-7 years’ PQE with a strong foundation at a top tier firm in transactional work (M&A, funds management, finance, capital markets).
• Experience in real estate or an in-house environment (including on client secondment) will be highly regarded but is not essential.
• Outstanding technical, analytical and drafting skills with a proven ability to simplify complex legal issues for commercial stakeholders.
• A pro-active self-starter with a willingness to pitch in and get things done.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to influence decisions and a collaborative mindset.
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills. 
• Flexible team player, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
