The role

We are seeking a commercially astute corporate lawyer to join us at GPT.  We are a leading diversified property group, as Legal Counsel. In this role, you will provide legal advice on complex transactions and strategic initiatives that shape the company’s future.

Your responsibilities will span funds management, investment, financing, governance, and commercial matters, working closely with stakeholders and deal teams. You will be supported by a high-performing legal team that values technical excellence and commercial acumen within a collaborative and respectful culture.

If you are looking to apply your corporate legal expertise in a role where your contributions are valued and your impact is significant, we invite you to consider this opportunity.

What you will be doing

  • Business Partnering – delivering legal advice that is clear and practical.
  • Driving and executing corporate transactions across the full deal lifecycle—from initial due diligence through closing and post-close integration.
  • Managing legal risks, developing practical and commercial strategies that protect GPT’s interests and support business goals.
  • Simplifying complex legal concepts into clear, actionable advice for non-legal audiences
  • Partnering with cross-functional teams including the broader Legal, Risk, Governance and Compliance Team, as well as tax and finance to deliver integrated solutions that drive business outcomes.
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts, fund documents and governance materials.
  • Owning relationships with external counsel, ensuring delivery of high-quality and cost-effective legal services that complement GPT’s internal expertise.
  • Supporting broader Legal, Governance and Compliance Team initiatives, from developing precedents and policies to delivering training that strengthen our legal and governance framework.

What makes you stand out

  • A current practicing certificate and approximately 5-7 years’ PQE with a strong foundation at a top tier firm in transactional work (M&A, funds management, finance, capital markets).
  • Experience in real estate or an in-house environment (including on client secondment) will be highly regarded but is not essential.
  • Outstanding technical, analytical and drafting skills with a proven ability to simplify complex legal issues for commercial stakeholders.
  • A pro-active self-starter with a willingness to pitch in and get things done.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to influence decisions and a collaborative mindset.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Flexible team player, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
