We are seeking an experienced and commercially focused Senior Tax Manager, Transactions to join GPT’s Finance team, reporting to the Head of Tax.
This is a high-impact, transaction-focused role within one of Australia’s most active ASX-listed property and funds management platforms. You will lead the end-to-end tax workstream on major capital transactions, fund initiatives and corporate activity, while also contributing to strong tax governance and risk management across the Group.
Operating in a fast-paced growth environment with significant inbound foreign capital, new fund launches and ongoing M&A and capital management activity, this role offers broad exposure, close partnership with senior stakeholders and the opportunity to influence outcomes on complex, high-value transactions.
What you will be doing
- Partner closely with the Head of Tax, Capital Transactions/Investment and Funds Management teams to provide tax leadership across major transactions, including:
-
- Property and platform acquisitions and disposals
- Domestic and cross-border restructures
- Fund establishment, structuring and ongoing optimisation
- Financing arrangements, refinancings and capital markets activity
- Lead the tax workstream on transactions by:
- Managing tax due diligence processes and identifying key risks and opportunities
- Designing and advising on optimal transaction and holding structures
- Reviewing and negotiating transaction documentation from a tax perspective
- Reviewing tax inputs and assumptions in financial and deal models
- Overseeing implementation of agreed tax structures post-completion
- Provide clear, timely and commercially focused tax advice during negotiations, balancing technical integrity, risk management and commercial outcomes within tight transaction timelines.
- Manage, instruct and critically review the work of external tax and legal advisers on transactions, including:
-
- Scope setting and fee management
- Reviewing advice, deliverables and legal documentation
- Coordinating and obtaining ATO private rulings where required
- Lead tax aspects of internal group restructures, simplification initiatives and strategic projects, ensuring alignment with commercial objectives and governance standards.
- Drive continuous improvement in tax-related transaction processes by:
-
- Identifying opportunities to streamline workflows and reduce friction
- Enhancing controls and documentation without compromising deal agility
- Embedding lessons learned into playbooks and guidance materials
- Support the development, implementation and ongoing maintenance of group tax policies, governance standards and the Tax Risk Management Framework.
- Assist with ATO reviews, audits, engagements and rulings, including preparation of submissions and coordination of responses.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with Australian income tax, GST, stamp duty and withholding tax obligations across GPT Group entities and managed funds, as required.
- Build tax awareness and capability across Finance, Capital Transactions/Investments and Funds Management teams through training, guidance, coaching and practical deal support.
What makes you stand out
You bring extensive tax experience (typically 12–15+ years), with a strong background in transactions and M&A tax gained within a Big 4 professional services firm and/or in-house in a listed or large private property, infrastructure or funds management environment.
Highly commercial and solutions-focused, you are comfortable leading tax workstreams on complex, high-value transactions and providing clear advice under pressure. You have deep technical expertise in Australian income tax, a strong working knowledge of stamp duty, and proven experience advising on inbound investment and fund structures.
You are recognised for your strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders across investment, finance, legal and treasury functions. You enjoy mentoring others, managing external advisers and contributing to the ongoing uplift of tax capability across the business.
